1. Process- How Glass is Made

         When there is a blend of soda, ash and lime the resultant of this mixture is called as glass. It is then heated at a very high temperature. Hot liquid undergoes various process of drawing, blowing and pressing. Once it is done, it then undergoes the process of annealing where the glass is heated at a very high temperature and then cooled. The major difference between the Toughened Glass and standard glass lies here. The normal glass is cooled slowly and steadily, while the tempered glass is cooled fast. Thus, through this process the glass retains its strength and it doesn’t shatter easily.

2. Strength

The quality of tempered glass is its core strength. As stated earlier it is four to five times much stronger than standard glass. Not to forget, it us scratch resistant and heat resistant. On the first instance, you may not find striking difference between the two types of glass, but they are both different in terms of thickness and size.

 

3. Tensile Strength

       The tempered glass undergoes the process of instant cooling and due to this the inner part of the glass shrinks, but the outer part remains unstressed and unaffected. This in turn increases the tensile strength of the tempered glass, while the standard glass surfaces have low tensile strength. This makes it vulnerable to stress and breakage. Moreover, if we compare tempered glass v/s regular glass we come to conclusion that regular does not undergo a tough process. Hence, as a result there are quite a few chances of breakage and cracking.

 

4. Usage

       The property of tempered glass is its strength and ability to handle the pressures. Due to this nature this kind of glass is ideal for automotive industry, commercial uses like escalator, solar panels, and it has usage in home also, as it can be used in coffee tables, patio doors, computer screen and oven. While the standard glass is used in window panes, doors, wall clocks, etc.

 

 5. Cutting and Finishing

       The cutting of the tempered glass is done on the prior basis. The underlying reason behind it is the piece of tempered glass breaks down completely. Hence, this is a feature that contributes to the safety of an individual. Once the glass slab is cut, it is washed properly to remove debris.

      Basically, the tempered glass will be as smooth as non tempered glass. But at times the toughened glass doesn’t look smooth or it may look uneven. The reason behind it is the glass is not washed properly during the cleaning process; hence the debris still remains on the glass. It is also termed as inferior quality glass. We can easily conclude that quality tempered glass is smooth and even.
